Loyal Management Team

Over the years Joanne and Peter worked to create a strong team who are loyal and passionate about customer service and serving the freshest seafood. Currently the business operates under management with very little ‘hands on’ time from the owners.

The owners are actively involved over the peak periods of summer (December and January) and then again at Easter. During the quieter winter months, hands on time averages one to two days per fortnight and focuses on ordering produce over the phone.

Anna has managed the business for over nine years and does so like it’s her own. She is truly passionate about creating an amazing customer experience. She reports in daily to Joanne and Peter.

Sten is the ‘Fish Cutter’ – another core member of the team. Luke manages and controls the stock levels, Priya is retail leader and Kelly is the cook. The staff are all locals and appreciate the positive and friendly work environment.

Joanne and Peter believe that if you take care of the staff then they will take care of business – and that philosophy is serving them well!

Benefits of Casual Staffing

Benefits of Casual Staffing

The majority of staff are casual which suits the business and the local employees.

A casual workforce enables the business to run at maximum efficiency because employees can be called upon at peak times.

There is no obligation however to keep them for slower periods. This suits a business such as this which is reliant on the tourist market.

In turn, casual employees love that they can fit their work around their lifestyle. For example retirees, who would like to work a few hours a week and then enjoy the Nelson Bay lifestyle at other times.

Casual employees also benefit from a higher hourly rate, compared to those of permanent staff. This compensates them for the lack of paid holiday entitlements and sick leave.

New Owner's Options

New Owner's Options

The new owners of Fishermen’s Wharf Seafoods have several options for running the business:

  • Let the business run itself! Continue with the current profitable business model ‘under management’. Be involved with the business when it suits them.
  • Create a family business which benefits from reduced labour costs by using family members as staff.
  • Bring their own passion and business experience to grow it further.

There are many opportunities to make the business even more profitable.

A Smooth Transition - No previous retail experience necessary!

A Smooth Transition - No previous retail experience necessary!

Joanne and Peter are committed to assisting the purchaser to ensure a smooth transition into ownership of Fishermen’s Wharf Seafoods and Bub’s.

Not only will they provide two weeks of onsite training but they will be onsite again in August to assist in planning for the December/January peak season. Planning is the key to success and ensuring highest revenues during these times.

The owners are respected as being one of the state’s best seafood retailers. Over the years they have acquired a wealth of knowledge and resources that they would like to share with the purchaser. This includes a large amount of marketing collateral.
